Happy belated New Year to all. Again, time got away from me with the holidays and other matters on my plate. It all good though, business and work = income. I've spent some time working on promoting my woodworking business utilizing the resources available through this wonderful technology called the internet. Revamped WoodBin Creations website to drive more traffic to it and so far it seems to be paying off. Pinterest, Google, Twitter, Etsy, Facebook...great sites to get more exposure for what I do.
With that came a number of unique requests from potential clients. I recently rendered an engraving of a Certificate of Retirement for the wife of a Viet Nam veteran who retired in 1973. He just turned 83 years old and she wanted to present it to him for Valentine's Day. A veteran myself, I couldn't pass up this challenging opportunity for them. The hardest part was locating the logos of the day as the US Army's emblem has changed since then. None the less, with the technology and software available, I was able to transform the graphics for a clean and sharp image suitable for engraving. Mission accomplished.
My next challenge is an engraving on a gun stock of a 1894 Winchester rifle. A family heirloom inherited by a client. Looking forward to satisfying another customer with this. Although not complaining, it's a little break from some of the usual plaques and photograph renderings I've been doing.
I'll be putting my engraver to the test with its cutting abilities for another client interested in installing baseball stadium facades in various rooms in his home. An easy task with a jigsaw and detail sander, but time consuming. With AutoCAD and the engraver, I foresee production time cut by at least 70%. More to follow.
